i am the administrator of the system. however my child has password protected
some photos, how can i break that password?

It depends on how they passworded the photos. If they are not protected by
anything other than a Windows user account password, use Start> Run>
control userpasswords2 to change the password on the child's account. Then
log on to the account and view the pictures.

Alternatively, you could add your account to the list of owners for the
folder holding the files or the files themselves:
