Dealing with Hijackware

You *must* seek updates for Ad-Aware, Spybot, etc., before each and every
use, even "right out of the box". But even then, they can't catch
everything. HijackThis (http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip) is the
preferred tool to use these days. It will help to both identify and remove
any hijackware/spyware. **Post your files to http://forums.spywareinfo.com/
for expert analysis, not here.**

Also update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. From
now on, do both daily.

I had this same problem trying to connect to the internet
using broadband cable. The browser window was blank with
that error on the bottom. After trying to troubleshoot the
problem with the cable company, They determined that
Winsock was corupted. To resolve it:
1. Remove TCPIP from Network Properties
2. Open regedit and go to
HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet/Services and Delete the
Winsock and Winsock2 folder.
3. Reinstall TCP/IP protocol

Good Luck
