Hi,

A number of functionality and usability issues have been raised in the
forums concerning Vista's version of briefcase.

In the absence of specific explanations, resolutions or satisfactory
workarounds from non-MS participants, an MS response would be greatly
appreciated.

Issue Summary:

1. Silent failure when briefcase host drive runs out of space
2. Internal (to briefcase) inconsistency in modified/unmodified status
determination
3. Incorrect operation of "Details" dialog (UI principles)
4. Poor UI design of update dialog makes significantly impairs access to key
information (filename)
5. General regression of utility w.r.t. Briefcase under XP
6. Impact increased by lack of compensating Sync capabilities in e.g. Vista
HP...

Regards

Julian

Humour begins here... had Briefcase XP somehow accumulated bad karma when it
was reincarnated?

I will add another non-working feature of the Vista Briefcase.

I "used" to create a briefcase directly on a CD-RW disc and drag the
folders/files that I wanted to back up to it.
Every week, I would pop in the CD, open the briefcase and "Update All" it
would replace the files that had changed since my last backup. Worked great.
Now, in Vista...
1) I cannot actually "create" the briefcase on the CD-RW disc. I have the
OPTION (right clilck) and it starts some operation, but a briefcase is not
created and there is no error message other any other indication of a problem
- there's just no briefcase created.
2) I read all of the instructions in Vista Help and it said to create the
Briefcase on the hard drive and drag that to the CD-RW. I did that and it
DID, in fact, copy the Briefcase to the CD. However, there's nothing in the
"Sync Copy In" or "Status" fields. and, when I try to "Update All" on the
Briefcase on the CD, it gives me a error message "There is not enough memory
to open the Briefcase database."

I can do this exact "backup" procedures using my USB drive but not my CD-RW
drive like I used. Is this functionality going to be repaired/reinstated or
should I get another USB drive (the one I had wasn't big enough) and throw my
CD-RW disks away?
