Is anyone aware of a freeware utility out there that disables the X close
button (window's top right corner) of any window?

What are you trying to accomplish? Disabling the Close button will not
prevent users from shutting down applications by other means. Maybe
you in fact want something like the 'disable' function of CMDOW?
