REQ: Suggestions for AMD RAID Motherboard

I am looking for suggestions on a current RAID motherboard, prefer
PATA over SATA RAID

AMD Based, not negotiable, NO INTEL!

Needs 0+1 RAID
JBOD support would be a plus, thats in addition to RAID
I prefer that it be PATA over SATA, but if it has everything else and
its SATA RAID, I can
Intergrated 6+ channel audio
Video onboard is NOT desired or required, I will be using my own dual
output card
1394
USB
100MB or Gigabit LAN

AMD based only, and support for dual core CPU's

XP Pro and Linux comptatible.

I don't care if its even compatible with vista, I won't be using it.

Any suggestions for current RAID MB's???

Am I the only one that is nervious about on-mobo raid for any place
that isn't buying lots of identical boards?

What are the chances that if the board dies a year from now you will
be able to find a duplicate that can read your disks.

Yes, there should be backups, but why lose one layer of redundancy?

Maybe this will spark some interest...

Of the following choices which are good, bad, OK, etc...

Input on good choice out of this bunch would be great.

Thanks!

I don't comment on the pros and cons of your list but,,,

First off: Delete all Socket939s from your list, as that's a dead end.
There's only a few different CPUs avalable for that anymore (Athlon64 3200+,
A64 3500+ and Athlon64 X2 3800+ comes to mind)
The AM2 socket is the newer and supported one

And chipset nForce 5xx/6xx are a whole lot newer than nForce4
(Bigger number usually more stuff/functions)

Hey hey. I vaguely recall hearing that before buying my current 939
mainboard Oct 3, 2006 (Asus A8N5X nForce4 Skt939 with an Opteron 152
2.6 GHz).

You might be right about the 939, but. How cheap is a mainboard versus
a CPU? I wouldn't worry much about having to replace an $85 mainboard
when your CPU costs twice that much. The upgrade path is replacing
your CPU, right? Why not replace the mainboard at the same time? Or at
least don't worry about it.

I might go with a 939 dual core 2.6 GHz or higher CPU upgrade some
day. Then again, I won't do that if I see dirt cheap AM2 mainboards
with compatible CPUs for the same price.

Others have other opinions. The subject to me is a curious thing about
mainboards and upgrade paths, it seems a little strange.

Good luck and have fun.
