When I run Norton Anti-Virus, the program stalls at a file
"C:\documents and settings\owner\my documents\\\\\\\\\\\\\\blocked by
Phantom Administrator_files\\\\\\\\\\"
The exact number of backslashes in each position is may be incorrectly
stated.
These files do not appear in the directories. Windows XP
I am the only user of this computer. This is a recent problem. "Trend
Micro Online Virus Scan" does not report a virus.
Previously respondents referred me to a PC Mag article about the
"phantom administrator" in IE. None of those solutions worked.
Because all these \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ files were in "owner\my
documents" folder, I copied the legitimate files to a new folder,
created a mew administrator user and deleted the old user identity
associated with that "owner/ my documents" folder. That folder was
therefore eliminated also. This did NOT help; the \\\\ files showed up
in the folder the files were moved to.
There seems to be NO information from MS or elsewhere on the web on
this problem. Am I the very first to experience it?
