report detail order

I have a report that displays invoice details. I would like the rows of
detail information to be listed by date on the report, right now it is
random. I know I need to sort it but I can't get the sorting and grouping to
work? can someone walk me through what I need to do?

What can't you get working? All you should have to do is open the sorting
and grouping dialog and select your date field as one of the sorting and
group levels. You might want to first sort by Invoice Number and then detail
date.
