How can I add a backfill color to an entire field in a report and have it
also color the white space between the individual items that are listed in

I do not understand what you mean about "items in a Field"... you mean the
space between the lines? The Backcolor property can be used to set the
background color of a Control. (Fields are in Tables and Queries, and are
displayed in Reports in Controls, e.g., Text Boxes, etc.)

Or do you mean you want to set the background color for the whole line
(Record) as displayed? The Sections of a Report also allow you to specify a
Backcolor.

I want an entire column backfilled including any spaces that occur between
each record in that column:

$150K (yellow)
(yellow)
$140K (yellow)
(yellow)
$125K (yellow)

I want the space between each record to be backfilled as well and the record
entry.

I can set the backfill color for that particular control but it only colors
the precise entry and not the space that occurs between each record from the
report set up.

I know this isn't Excel....but like Excel when you can highlight an entire
field and select a backfill color and it is a continuous backfill for that
column whether there is an entry in that column or not. Hope this helps.

If you stretch the Control all the way to the top of the section and all the
way to the bottom, that seems to do what you want, on a little test database
where I just tried it.
