Replied messages not going to sent items folder

When I send a newly compose message a copy of the message is automatically
sent to the 'sent items' folder. However when I reply to a message the copy
of this sent message does not appear in the 'sent items' folder automatically
- the message appears in my inbox subfolder '2008' and I have to transfer it
to my sent items folder. Help greatly appreciated.

You don't state your Outlook version. The following applies to OL 2003:
Click Tools>Options>E-mail Options>Advanced E-mail Options. Uncheck the box
labeled "In folders other than the Inbox, save replies with original
messages".
