Replacing WMV format collectiosn with AVI

Y

Yves

I've just finisjed my first project only to realise I
should have captured my DV in AVI files, rather than WMV,
because I'm planning to turn it into a DVD and I
understand WMV quality is not good enough for that (also
will my DVD player play such files?) WMM recommends
WMV 'if you want to dafe and edit on your computer',
which is what I wanted to do - it did not warn me that
that it is not the right option if you want to play a DVD
on your TV...
What can I do? The project files are saved, so can I
replace the WMV files in my collections with AVIs by
recapoturing the DV all over again in AVI? And how do I
replace them in my porject? Delete and insert?

Help please - I've spent a month on this.

You won't be able to re-capture in DV-AVI format and swap source files for
your existing project.... Hopefully you opted for a high enough quality WMV
file when you captured so the actually quality difference when watching the
movie on a TV will be minimal.

Burn your DVD and don't tell anyone about it.... and they may not notice.

Thanks Paps,

I didn't specify anything in addition to chosing the
recommended option and understand that by default it
picks 'best' - is that right? And how big is the
differnec between WMV and AVI?

Best is determined by the specific computer, as it says... which isn't
always the highest WMV file quality.... You can look at the properties of
your captured source files to see what quality they are. What I get at that
setting depends on which of my computers I use to do the capturing.

The best quality WMV will be about 1/3 the size of a DV-AVI file, and good
quality ones might be about 7 percent the size.

In addition to checking the properties of your files, you can gauge them by
their size relative to the 12 to 13 GB per hour for DV-AVI.
