replacing spaces in folder names, underscore

I wonder if there is an easy way to replace the spaces with an
underscore, or specifying no spaces? I can see i can put underscores
or just rename doc snd setting, prog files, my docs and any other then
alter all referances.

surely there is somewhere to just specify no spaces.
it seems a realy stupid idea having spaces.
