Replacing cell with text

Hi, I want to know if it is possible to do the following:

Imagine I have a legend in which I say which text corresponds to whic
letters
ex:
John -> J
Harry -> H
Susan -> S

and what I want to do is when entering J, H or S in a cell, it wil
change to the corresponding text.

Is there a way of doing it without having to run a macro ?

Go to Tools > AutoCorrect Options (XL2002) and insert new
entries.

Not very practical, but have a look at Tools>Autocorrect options. This will
apply throughout your Office applications, AFAIK.
