Replacement video card fans/sinks?

D

Doug Warner

The fan froze up on my ATI Radeon 9800 Pro a month ago, so I
disassembled it, cleaned the bearings, lubed with light oil and
reassembled.

Today, it did it again, but it wasn't locked up tight. I did discover
that the magnet ring in the rotor had slipped partway out and was
rubbing on the stator PCB. I glued it back into the rotor, and also
lubed the bearing with motor oil, and added a bit of light grease
because there was some visibile wear on the shaft.

I've already requested a new fan from ATI. If they don't supply them,
is there an aftermarket alternative that will still fit in the same
space the stock fan/sink does?

vantec makes one that works and it has nice blue leds - go to newegg.com,
coolerguys.com, etc. and you will find it

Several. I've put a Zalman fanless heatpipe based one on my 9600XT, but
that model may not work for your higher spec card. Here's a starting
point for your search. Some of these work with your chipset, but it
isn't always obvious from the information given on the page, so you'll
have to go to the manufacturer's website and read the specs:

I've purchased from these guys numerous times and they are first rate
even in after sales support.

Cheers,

Ari

I'm going to die rather sooner than I'd like. I tried to protect my

hospital following this resulted in a serious illness. I now need a bone

transplant, too. Please volunteer to be a marrow donor:
