Replacement Disks?

Hi

I have Windows XP Pro installed. Somehow (even though I always tell my
relatives and friends not to lose their disks) I have lost my installation
disk. It was an OEM Full XP Pro disk w/SP1 that I ordered when I built my
computer. I still have the sticker with the reg key on it and wondered if
it is possible to order a replacement disk from microsoft?

Mainly because I want to reformat my system sometime soon as it has gotten
very sluggish, and I can't do that without the disk.

Thanks for any info

You can legitimately copy an OEM XP pro disk from someone else, as long
as it's of the same type, and use that with your license. There is
nothing unique about the disk within the same family, ie Pro v. Home,
OEM v. Retail.

Yeah, that's what I was looking for as an option... but I need one that will
work with my present registered key for some of the cad programs and plugins
I bought for them that I run.. not sure if the ones keyed to my present disk
would work with a new key.. and any other things that can wierd out on me if
the number differs.. sigh.. I'm going to be getting Vista when it comes out,
but would like to clear up the sluggishness of my system before then.

Cool... too bad all my folks and relatives only have home versions.. grin..
none of them dive into it as deeply as I do. Shoot, should have talked them
into going for Pro when they bought their copies.. heh heh.

I'll keep that in mind tho.

It's covered in the article Carey posted:

<quote>

Replacement Microsoft Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) or System
Builder software media
To replace OEM or System Builder software media, contact the OEM where you
acquired the software

Why? Unless they have a current or anticipated future need for one of
the features or functions that are found in XP Pro but which are not
in XP Home there is no advantage in having Pro. Other than these
specific items the two versions are identical and both are produced
from the same source code base. In particular there is zero
difference in performance or stability between the two versions.
