Replacement 2.5 HDD for Sony Vaio PCG 582M/PCG Z1RMP

Hi

The Hitachi DK23EA60 drive in my friends old Vaio laptop has died.

I've checked the spec and this is an ATA-5 interface.

Of course this model is no longer made so I wondered if it can be replaced
with an ATA-6 drive?

Fortunately my friend has the Sony recovery discs so we can restore the OS
etc.

I also wondered if it would be limited to using the same 60Gb capacity for
the replacement HDD?

Can the BIOS cope with a larger HDD?

I'm assuming the recovery discs restore from an image rather than an
installing Windows the usual slow way - does anyone know?

If its a recovery image would it balk at restoring to a larger drive?

Thanks a lot for your time and any info.

Ca. 2002/2003.

So? What has that got to do with availability?

Maybe, maybe not and depends on whether it hangs the laptop or not.
If so you can still limit the drive's capacity to what the bios accepts (which may be
different to what it supports) by setting it by software while connected to a desktop.
