Hi. I have win 2000 SP2 server with bad sectors on the system/boot disk. How
is the safest/shortest way to replace this disk?. Is there any document that
explain this in details?.

Thanks in advance

You can try to image your installation to a new disk
with an imaging product such as Acronis True Image
or Norton Ghost. If this fails then I would restore the
server to a new disk from my most recent image -
I always image my installations. If you don't have an
image file then you might be able to use ntbackup to
back up the lot, then restore it onto a new disk.

Hi all. Some people has suggested a ghosting solution. But if I use one of
this utility that perform a sector to sector transfer between disk, it
could also mark as bad, sectors on the newer disk. Am i right?. How about
the clasic backup - restore procedure?. Any other ideas?

TIA

Ghost does not by default do a bit copy so will not copy your bad sectors -
Ghost will be your best option.

You could use the standard Windows 2000 backup utility, you will need to
install Windows 2000 server on the new disk with the same name (an issue if
you are using Backup exec)

This is covers the Windows 2000 backup util

Are you running any Backoffice produts? If you perform a backup be sure to
review the files that may not have been backed up, this will be the case if
they are in use.
