Replace Adaptec 2010s Raid Controller

S

Spenceley

Hi,

We have a customer who has a hotswappable back plane supported by an Adaptec
2010s Raid Controller.

They wish to add additional disks but it doesn't seem to be possible with
that controller. It is a Zero Channel card so when I plug in an extra disk
the existing mirror is immediately unbootable.

We have sourced a 2310 which will do the job but of course Windows 2003
won't boot from it.

I have imported the array from the 2010 and it starts to boot from the 2310
but fails and reboots. I assume this is because there isn't a driver
installed that will support it.

Has anyone ever tried to upgrade adaptec raid controllers before? If so,
how did you achieve it.

Thanks,
Joe

Are the jumpers correct? Is the disk ID correct? Booting into controller
bios may help. I believe <Cntl A> at POST

Hi,

Found the problem was the IDs. System was built with the drives

configured on the highest SCSI Ids, so any additional drives pick up a

lower ID.

Looks like my next job is to break the array, move the drives down the

backup plane and rebuild.

Cheers,

Joe

Glad to hear you're at the root of the problem.
