replace 2 spaces with 1?

Edit>Replace>More>Use wildcards. Type ([\!\?.])spacespace in the find what
field
Type \1space in the Replace with field. Replace all.
 
Not automatically as you type. If you want one space, then type
one space. Or when you're done typing two spaces where you only
want one, you can use the Edit->Replace command to find a period
and two spaces, and replace all with a period and one space.
