Repeating an animation sequence

Comrades,
I tried to post this question a few days ago with a small example PPT file,
but I guess the newsgroup doesn't allow attachments. So here goes with a
verbal explanation.

Powerpoint 2003, SP1 on Windows XP, SP2. I'm using Powerpoint itself, and
have no need to display slides on the viewer. I understand how to repeat an
individual customer animation (eg. "repeat until end of slide"). I also
understand how to apply entrance, emphasis and exit effects to an object in
sequence.

What I can't get working is to repeat a sequence of an entrance and exit
effect, for a single object, until the end of the slide. I've tried adding
delays and playing with the duration of the effect but without success.

The example file I tried to post earlier this week showed a rectangle with a
diagonal, 2-colour fill (red to yellow). I created a second rectangle of
the same size with the opposite fill (yellow to red). The second rectangle
is placed exactly over the first.

There is no animation effect applied to the first rectangle, but I would
like the second rectangle to fade in and out, in and out, and so on until
the end of the slide.

This particular transition sequence could be used to highlight heated areas
on a technical diagram. For example a vertical section through a furnace,
or nuclear reactor showing the hot areas.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Geoff

Thanks Echo, I'll check that out.

Unfortunately, PPT's animation doesn't allow the user to loop a sequence
of
animations. You'll have to use a third-party program -- Chirag Dalal has
created some very cool animations, though, and fade in/fade out is one.
