repeated messages

every time i sign on to outlook, i get a repeat of message already in my
inbox. what do i do to turn that off?
 
In Outlook, go to Tools menu, Accounts (or Email Accounts), on the Mail tab
select your account and click on Properties button. Go to QAdvanced tab and
deselect the
"Leave a copy of messages on servewr" option at the bottom of the dialogue
box.

Good to know, but how can I get rid of the multiple copies (there are so many
by now) of the old messages in my inbox? Thanks in advance.
