JimB,
The desktop.ini is completely missing or messed up. Probably does not
exist, since you created My Music from scratch, or has the data from you
trying to change the icon.
Question: One of my special folders (e.g. My Documents, My Music, My
Pictures, Shared Documents, etc) has lost its name, lost its icon, or has
the wrong Task Pane template, how can I get it back?
Answer: This problem can occur if the hidden desktop.ini file in the special
folder is corrupt or missing. Here are the steps to fix this problem:
Illustrated, detailed instructions here:
http://computers.douglasthrift.net/winxpfaq.html
Scroll down a little and click on Special Folders. Shows how to fix or
recreate the proper desktop.ini for My Music.
Sample My Music desktop.ini
----------Below line-------
[DeleteOnCopy]
Owner=Your Name
Personalized=13
PersonalizedName=My Music
[.ShellClassInfo]
[email protected],-12689
IconFile=%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll
IconIndex=-237
----------Above line-------
Substitute your account name for Your Name above. I.e. C:\Documents and

Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried this, and it does not make the
'My Music' icon change. By way of explanation, I created the 'My Music'
folder by creating a new folder and naming it 'My Music'. I have also
tried copying a functioning 'my music' folder from another account.
Still no success. I have also used repair option in Tweak UI without
success.
Thanks for your continued advice.

See if this helps.
1. Click Start, click Run, and then type:
rundll32 mydocs.dll,PerUserInit
2. Click OK.
[ The command line parameter is case-sensitive, and the command has no
return value. The user will not notified if the command has successfully
executed or not ]
This command also restores the missing My Documents shortcut in the Send
To menu.

I have a problem with installing iTunes. Keeps coming back and telling
me that the 'My Music' folder was not found in default location. I
attempted to manually create, but still doesn't work. Is there any way
to repair the folder without re-installing Windows XP?
Thanks for the help
