Just stick your WinXP Pro cd into your computer and then make your computer
boot off the cd and then follow the instructions and there will be a point
where you can choose Repair the previous installation of your Windows.

How do i run it without the cd?

Hi Ross,

Follow these steps to do a repair install which should preserve your data,
settings, and programs:

1. Insert the Windows XP CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM
drive.
2. Restart your computer. If you have to, change the BIOS settings to start
from
the CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive, and then restart your computer again.
3. At the "Welcome to Setup" page, press ENTER.
4. Press F8 to accept the Licensing Agreement.
5. Use the arrow keys to select the installation of Windows XP that you want
to
repair, and then press R to start the automatic repair process.
6. When Setup is completed, activate Windows XP.

Note that you will need your Product Key for this procedure, so have it
handy before you begin.

You have to have the files available somewhere, usually from off a CD-ROM.
If you are on a network and the installation files are available from a
network share, well, there you go ..

I need to run the repair of windows without a cd-rom or a
network. I've done it before but i don't remember how i
did it. I remember i had to type something into the run
bar. But thats all i remember. Someone help.

Yes, maybe you did use Run .. but .. you probably had a Windows CD-ROM in
the CD-ROM drive tray. To install you need the *install files*. If they are
on your system then fine, if not well ..

Search your system for winnt32.exe and winnt.exe .. remember to use
Advanced options to search system files etc... if they are present then you
have a hope for a no CD-ROM no network share install - if not, then
unlikely.

Also look into the subject of system restore.
