I have to repair "ntldr missing". In the repair console i can transfer to the D; drive where the cd ROM for XP home is located. I need to go to get a file in subdir i386. What do I have to type in to get there and get the file to copy to C: ? Elgordo

why not just try this
Try booting up using the XP CD-ROM and choose to repair. Then choose the
Recovery Console Option...
Choose the number corresponding to your XP version and enter your
Administrator Password (then press enter).

After that you'll see a command prompt...enter the following command:

bootcfg /rebuild" command to fix boot.ini.
**FIXBOOT will fix the boot sector on the boot drive,
FIXMBR will fix the master boot record if the NT loader
complains of a missing HAL or unmountable boot volume.

After the process is completed enter the command EXIT to quit (and the
system should auto reboot OK from that point onwards...

Hi,

From the C prompt, just run:

Copy D:\I386\ntldr C:\

Have tried copy D:\i386\ntldr C:\ , with my XP home cd and again with a mate's xpProf, and I get "Access is denied
I have tried Peter's advice and at prompt "bootcfg /rebuild " and get "command not recognised'
I have done fixboot and this gets done but no bootup occurs
When I emter "fixmbr" I get a list of messagesthat say if my HDD is OK I shouldnt proceed as I may delete access to all files on the whole HDD. it is in 2 partitions, both ntfs. If I had wanted to dothis I would just reload the OS. Is it worth the punt, or is there another wayaround it
elgordo.....gettin tired
