Geo,

Is this a new router, or has it been in use for a while? Are there other
computers connected successfully?

Is the DHCP server enabled on the router? Does it have enough addresses to
issue?

Has this computer been previously successfully connected to this router? To any
router? Can you do diagnostic for the network card? Can you try another router
port / cable?

Try reloading TCP/IP. Open a command window (Start - Run - "cmd"). At the
prompt, type "netsh int ip reset c:\netsh.log" and see what happens.
