renaming my _vti_cnf folder

The server wants me to rename my _vti_cnf folder, and this messes up all my navigation. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Jimmy

The server or the folks managing the server want this?

I designed a site for one of the clubs at my local college and everytime they go to upload the site they say that they get a message that the _vti_cnf site needs to be renamed. I do not know what to tell them in order to get the site up and running. Any ideas?
Thanks again,
Jimmy

Does the remote server have the FP extensions installed?

Does this mean that they have to have frontpage extentions installed to upload the file _vti_cnf?
Thanks,
Jimmy

If the FP extensions are installed on the remote server, they should be
using FP's File Menu | Publish Web command, which never uploads the _vti
folders.

So it does sound like the remote server has the FP extensions.

If they have the extensions installed, then do NOT use FTP to upload to
the site, use FrontPage's PUBLISH command. The _vti_ files will be
created fresh on the server, NOT copied from your local version. Those
files are what FrontPage uses to keep track of which files have changed,
among other things.

If they do NOT have the extensions installed, then you still do NOT copy
them to the remote site, as they would serve no purpose there.

So if they do not have Frontpage Extensions installed then I do not need to send this folder over to be uploaded and if so will the site still function properly?
Thanks again, Jimmy
