I want to create a template that has all the same formatting as a
current template that I'm using, but with a different name showing up
in the middle of the Status Bar on the bottom of the screen. While I
know how to resave a file as a template, I can not seem to change its
properties to a new name when doing so.

Note: I want to change the name of the design template that shows up on
the status bar, not the name of the file.

Open PowerPoint and open the template. Go to View > Master > Slide Master .
Now, right click on one of the thumbnails at the left and select "Rename
Master". Then save the template as a .POT. Close it and reopen it and you
should see the changes you made in the status bar.

Make sure that you save the template to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office
2003\Templates\Presentation Designs\ or wherever you have Office 2003 installed.
