Better to create a new user then use the Copy To function to mirror the
profile. Create the new account. Logon with the new account at least once.
Then while logged on as another user (with administrative rights) Control
Panel|System|User
Profiles, select your olduser, Copy To, Browse to
%systemdrive%\Documents and Settings\newuser
Change "Permitted to use:" to "newuser" OK

You can rename a user, but that will not change the profile name. Having
the profile name different from the user name will probably lead to the
sort of confusion you'd prefer to do without.

What are you wanting to backup?

User (profile settings). I recently had a corrupted user profile cause
problems and I was wondering if there was a way to back up file(s) that make
up the settings.

Also, I don't see where the "Copy To" is that you mentioned. Can you provide
some additional instruction? Thansk if you can. Well, thanks anyway, for
your attention thus far.

These are stored in the current user hive of the registry. (ntuser.dat)

If you run Programs|Accessories|System Tools|Backup, then choose ERD, then
if you check the box for "Also backup....", then the reg (along with
ntuser.dat) will also be backed up to
%windir%\repair\RegBack
leaving the
%windir%\repair\
directory files intact as original installation.

You'll need to manually do the file back up. Look for the 'Copy To' function
in; Control Panel|System|User Profiles
