Rename \$Recycle.Bin to RECYCLER

I don't like having both "$Recycle.Bin" and "RECYCLER" just taking place in
Windows Explorer.

How do I tell Vista and XP to use another name for that system folder?
It would be better if I can move it to
\System Volume Information\RECYCLER

Why would you even want to do this? And BTW I think you'll find that you
can't access the System Volume Information folder at all...

Are you Dual booting between XP and Vista? Or is this drive been upgraded
from XP?

Recycler is the pre-vista name for $recycle.bin. If you're not running XP
(or 2k) you can delete the recycler folder.

You can't move it off the root of the drive.

There is a way to change the name of the Recycle Bin in older versions of
Windows but I can't remember to save my life.
In Vista however you can just right click and change it just like any other
folder.

Hello Gordon! Thanks for stopping by. Here is a reason:

dir /a /b s:\
$Recycle.Bin
ATI MMC
RECYCLER
System Volume Information
pagefile.sys

How does it feel with so much system items? There are 5. This is a large
volume, that I have assigned as a primary workspace for my work. How would
You feel If someone puts a lot of garbage in your workspace? And You have to
delete it every now and then!

It is a doal-boot configuration. Each has it's own partition. Each
re-creates it's own Recicle bin folder after I delete it.

Oh and about "System Volume Information"... I've granted my self "Full
control", so I can do whatever I want with it.

That way you only change the icon on the desktop, and not the physical
folder on the <root> of each hard-disk.

It's not garbage - they are NORMAL System folders and files! Why not create

files and folders if you are so worried about them....

Yes, it is a large number for unwanted items in workspace.
Especially "$Recycle.Bin" is the first item that appears on the list.

Actually this is the separate partition that You were talking about.
Windows is installed on another physical hard-disk.

You need to make clear when you post whether you are referring to
Windows XP or Vista. The way each works is not the same.

You seem to be wanting to do strange things. It would be helpful to know
why?

With dual booting you need to be very careful because if one system can
see the other the system running can damage the other system. You can
share a pagefile and data files in their own partitions but each system
partition must remain hidden from the other.

Recycle Bin and Recyler are system folders. You can change the icon for
desktop esthetics but without decompiling Windows and rewriting it the folder
name must remain as it is.

Gordon

It is a troublesome process to gain access to the System Volume
Information folder. What version of Windows XP are you using?

Gaining access does not actually gain you much as tinkering with the
contents of the System Information folder is unwise. The System Restore
function is a difficult one to manage effectively without inviting
another complication.

At first I thought he only wanted both icons from each operating system to
have the same name, but after reading some of the other threads it sounds
more like he wants "recycler" and "recycle bin" to work as a single folder.
Sounds dangerous if at all possible.

Pro SP2 - and I don't want to access the folder! I don't need to.... :-)

Hello Gerry!

| You need to make clear when you post whether you are referring to
| Windows XP or Vista. The way each works is not the same.

Well If someone tells me how it's done in Vista, that I will know how to do
it in Vista.
If someone tells me how it's done in XP, that I will know how to do it in
XP.
And then I will do it, wherever I need to. It's simple as that: 'Any
solution for any of the above operating systems would be usefull to me'.

| You seem to be wanting to do strange things. It would be helpful to know
| why?

My workspace folder is S:\. That's 2 clicks away: My Computer, S:\
The less items to distract me in that folder, the better.
Anything that can be moved to another folder is a solution to clean my
workspace.

Any solution to clean my workspace is Greatly Appretiated! Here is the plan:
1. Items that will remain:
System Volume Information

2. Items that I found a solution to move to sub-folder:
pagefile.sys

3. Items that I would like to move to sub-folder or merge together:
$RECYCLE.BIN
RECYCLER

You mean that actions taken by the user can damage data or security
configuration of another OS in a doal-boot configuration. -- That's true.

Also actions taken by a bad program can cause this. -- True!

Two operating systems sharing the same computer means two operating systems
sharring the same computer. It does not mean that one will break the other.
You should not be so scared! I have 4 operating systems and no conflicts!
It's safe.

Yes I do want the two folders to share a single name, so that I don't see
two folders, but just one.

Alternatively:

The less items to distract me in that folder, the better.

| Sounds dangerous if at all possible.

No this is not dangerous. After all this is where the deleted item go
waiting for confirmation. Data losses in this folders are considered safe.
