rename jpg files revert to previous image

trouble renaming jpg files. if i try to swap two file
names, the images revert back to what they were
originally.
Example:
img1.jpg is a picture of a kid eating his birthday cake
and img2.jpg is a picture of the cake before it was cut.
When i do the following:
1. rename cake picture to a tmp name
ren img2.jpg to img1x.jpg
i still have a picture of a cake (img1x) and one of the
kid (img1).

2. rename the kid picture to be the 2nd image
ren img1.jpg to img2.jpg
i then have two pictures of the cake!

3. rename the cake picture (the tmp name) to be the 1st
picture
ren img1x.jpg to img1.jpg
now i had hope to have img1.jpg be the cake
and img2.jpg be the kid
but instead they are back the way we started, where the
eating the cake is img1 and cutting the cake is img2!

Msut be some kind of caching problem... anyone else have
this problem? What can i do to fix it?

Thanks you,
RW

Try making copies of the files
and rename the copies.

Right click / Copy...

Right click / Paste...

Right click / Rename

I had tried making copies first, even to a different
physical hard drive and renaming them there, but still
have the problem. I even deleted file in my temp
directory and rebooted, then tried renaming again the
copied files... and still had the problem.

anyone else have this problem?
thx RW
