I;m running xp home on a machine i took over from someone else. i've added
myself as a user and as the administrator, but can't seem to get rid of the
previous owner and user and now both the previous owner and my user get
filled up with documents and temporary files. How do i streamline this and
stop my c drive filling up.
I also notice that the xp home folder fills up with folders from updates and
system restore which also clog up the drive - how can i get them to be
created on another larger drive where space is not so critical?

If I bought a used computer, the first thing I would do with it would be to
reinstall the operating system cleanly. You have no idea how the computer
has been maintained, what has been installed incorrectly, what is missing,
what viruses and spyware there may be, etc. I wouldn't want to live with
somebody else's mistakes and problems, possibility of kiddie porn, etc., and
I wouldn't recommend that anyone else do either.

Well, actually, the machine is my wife's and has never been out of my
presence, and is networked with mine. When she upgraded her pc, i took over
hers, which was, in turn an upgrade for me. So, despite the risks, I know
this pc has not been abused.
So, back to my original question: how can i delete her user profiles in my
documents and settings folder?
and how can I make xp store all the $ntuninstallkb folders elsewhere?

have you went to <start>control panel>user accounts>change an
account>*select account to be deleted> select delete account then >
select delte files > then confirm your desicion..... try that if you
haven't. then when you boot the machine, you should have no sign of
that account.

*You must be an Administrator.

NOTE: if you trust the installation and the account's use... perhaps
you should just change the name of the account to yours. then just
uninstall any progs and delete any files you don't want. that will
keep you from any weird problems with running programs and what/not. I
would actually recommend either doing that... or doing a clean
reinstall.
