removing unneeded taskbar icons

my taskbar is pretty crowded and I do not need.
'Safely remove hardware'
'no backups scheduled'
'Envision Camera connected'
etc.
etc.

so how do I remove unneeded icons

the help file says 'right click and choose delete'
but there is no menu options for the ones I listed

Right click the (<) in the taskbar and select Customize Notification Icons.
Select what ones to HIDE or Hide when inactive. Vista sometimes changes your
choice at random, so just put it back.
