Removing taskbar icons

I installed a new printer on my computer (running Windows ME) and i
added an icon to the taskbar on the lower right hand corner of m
screen. Is there a way to get rid of this? I can right click on it an
choose "Close" but it's frustrating to do this every time I start up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Two things

1. Posting your question to a newsgroup for Windows ME instead of
Windows 2000 would be a faster way of getting the correct answer.

2 Try deleting the shortcut for said "icon" from the "Startup" entry in
"Start", "Programs".
