removing special characters

I need to know how to remove a hard carriage return and an
end of line character within a cell.
 
Select the data, do edit>replace, in the what box place the cursor and hold
down alt while typing 010 on the numpad, release the alt key , leave the
replace with box empty (you won't see anything in the what box), the replace
all..
