Removing SOUNDS

Thank you for reviewing this post. It is a hard one for me to describe.
System in question is using XP Home.
Remember WIN98 and Themes? Remember the one with the haunted-looking house
and the sounds that accompanied it, the creaking door, etc?
Well, this computer, periodically, makes that noise. There are other
noises, too, but this one was the easiest to describe.
Where can I go to stop this? I have gone into start>CP>Sounds and changed
the sound scheme to regular Windows, but this still happens.
I bet there is some place in the registry where this can be shut down.
Please help.
Your time is appreciated.

Go back to CP/Sounds and set the option "No sounds" in the drop down menu. Apply/OK.

Work on the system as you normally do to make sure that it is nice a quiet. Then go back and set the sounds to Windows Default. Check the sounds to make sure that they are the default sounds and not custom sounds.

Thanks. Will do. Is it possible that someone changed the Default Sounds and
replaced them with Custom Sounds?

I'll post back if not successful. THANK YOU.

It could have been anuything. Sometimes programs or utilities will add their own custom sounds. Also if you have installed any third party Themes or Microsoft Themes, they could have been responsible.
