I'm using Excel 97 to revise a document which contains shadowed text boxes that I can't select. They span across cells and aren't aligned to them. I've unprotected the workbook and sheet but I still can't select them to get properties, or to modify. Can someone help identify what they may be and/ or how to revise/ delete them

Thank you in advance.

nr,

Don't know if I've seen this one. Try holding Ctrl, as you try to select it.
Or try turning on the Drawing Selection tool (a arrow toward the left of the
Drawing toolbar). Be sure to turn it back off when you're done, or you'll
go nuts trying to select cells. Depending on just what these are, one might
do it.

Thank you, but that doesn't seem to work. More info - when I scroll over the text boxes in the worksheet the cursor changes to the text input cursor but will not allow me to select, or highlight them. They look like input boxes on websites with a recessed border.

NR,

They sound like text boxes from the Control Toolbox, then. Bring up the
Control Toolbox (right-click any toolbar). Turn on Design Mode (upper left
button in the Toolbox). Now see if you can select them.

Thank you, Mr. Kiosterud. They were control boxes. I'm now able to remove them and edit the document as necessary.
