Removing recent templates from task pane in PPT XP?

B

Brad Zenner

I know how to clear out the most recent presentations in the task
pane, but it seems that under the "New from template" section on the
task pane, the two most recent templates used appear in the list.

The reason why I'd like to remove those two templates is because we
use the "Save My Settings" wizard to create an OPS file for new users
in our environment. However the two templates listed that were
recently used point to a path that is not valid on the user's
computer, which means we have to manually open two templates to change
that cached list. We're just looking to save a little time.

Does anyone know how to clear them out? Any help is greatly
appreciated.

There are two places that you'll have to make changes - - the PCB file and
the Regstry.

1. Close PowerPoint.

2. Locate the .pcb file, which PowerPoint uses to save settings. It is
usually in C:\Documents and Settings\*user*\Application
Data\Microsoft\PowerPoint\PPT10.pcb. Rename the file to PPT10.old, or
delete it. (PowerPoint will create a new PCB file the next time it is run.
Any customization of toolbars, etc. will have to be lost.)

3. Go to Start > Run and type regedit. Locate
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\PowerPoint\RecentTemplateLi
st and delete the Template1, Template2, etc. items.

4. Open PowerPoint and go to Format > Design Template. The two templates
should be gone from the Task Pane.

Hello,

If you (or anyone else reading this message) have suggestions for how to
make this easier to do in PowerPoint, don't forget to send your feedback
(in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

It's VERY important that, for EACH wish, you describe in detail, WHY it is
important TO YOU that your product suggestion be implemented. A good wish
submssion includes WHAT scenario, work-flow, or end-result is blocked by
not having a specific feature, HOW MUCH time and effort ($$$) is spent
working around a specific limitation of the current product, etc. Remember
that Microsoft receives THOUSANDS of product suggestions every day and we
read each one but, in any given product development cycle, there are ONLY
sufficient resources to address the ones that are MOST IMPORTANT to our
customers so take the extra time to state your case as CLEARLY and
COMPLETELY as possible so that we can FEEL YOUR PAIN.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).
