Removing Progs. Traces from Registry

Having problems with AOL application, I decided to remove it. I used its own
uninstall utility and
was told that it had been removed completely. Just for curiosity, I scanned
the registry....using
'regedit' as well as 'regseeker'.
Surprisingly, there was a great number of references to the Application. I
was able to remove
most, but several, in the HKEY_Local_Machine/System could not be removed.
These dealt with
various types of Legacy_AOL, such as ACS, SERVICE, TOPSPEEDMONITOR, etc. I
tried to remove them in Safe Mode, but NO GO. Is there a way to remove any
trace of it or of any other Application when comes time to remove any?

I'd recommend leaving them alone. Unused registry entries rarely cause a
problem, and the attempt to remove entries that remain after an uninstall
may have harmful consequences. I'd be especially careful about the
entries in HKLM\System. A screw-up in that area can be very difficult to
recover from.
