Removing one OS on Dual Boot PC

Guest

I have two windows installed on my PC, 1) Windows XP Prof. , 2) Windows 98
SE, each on a different partition. Win 98 is on the C drive and XP on G
drive. I want to remove Win 98. How can I do so? Will I have to format the
entire C Drive? ( D drive is NTFS, E and F are CD drives )

Move files that you want to keep from C.
NTDETECT.COM, NTLDR and BOOT.INI are boot files for XP.
Delete everything else from C.
In XP, Start, Run, notepad c:\boot.ini
Was the default boot system to XP?
If yes, then remove C:\Windows from the operating systems.

That's the eaiest way to do it. Boot to Windows XP, and format the C: drive.
If there's anything on C: you want to keep, copy it to D: or G: first.

Yes but what changes will i have to make to boot.ini file ? My boot.ini in
Win XP reads as...
[Boot Loader]
timeout=30
Default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOWS
[Operating Systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
C:\="Microsoft Windows 98"

Should i remove C:\="Microsoft Windows 98" and save it? And for using C: in
Win XP do i need to convert it into NTFS ? You wrote something about boot
files for XP. What changes do i make to that ?
I hope you will help me out. Thank- you

Do i really need to delete everything else form C: ? Will not erasing the
Windows folder remove win 98 ?
And after removing Win XP will remain in G Drive As it is, rite ?

If you don't need the hard drive space, then just delete the Windows folder.
The program folders will not be used by XP unless you reinstall the programs
under XP (installing to the C drive).
Some programs save user data in the program folder. Save the user data if
you think you may use the program again.

Yes, XP will be on G.
To move XP requires a reinstall.
