Removing Messenger 5

Eric

I just typed in the Run box to uninstall Windows
Messenger 5 but I then got a box that said:

Are you sure you want to uninstall this product?

[Yes] or [No]

I clicked 'Yes' and the Windows Installer appeared saying
to remove. Then I got this box.

"To avoid restarting your computer, go to each program
and close it. (You may not be able to close some
programs). Otherwise click "continue" without closing any
program, although your computer may have to restart to
finish Setup"

Filename
msmsgs.exe - Windows Messenger
msnmsgr.exe - MSN Messenger

What is going on?

Hi,

The program may still be running, go into Task Manager (hit ctrl-alt-delete)
then go into Task Manager, then click on the Processes tab and then find
msmsgs.exe and msnmsgr.exe and then select them and then click on the End
Process button.
Then continue the uninstallation of the product.

Yup, you're right. Now, I have another problem. I
completely removed Windows Messenger 5, and now I have
Windows Messenger 4.7 installed. When I try to login, I
get the following:

"-Windows Messenger
Signing in to .Net Messenger Service failed because a
password is incorrect, or the sign-in name doesn't exist.
If you forgotten your password, then click Help Topics.

[Retry] or [Cancel]"

That's the error I receive. That isn't possible because I
can use the same .Net Passport with MSN Messenger and it
works just fine.

Any suggestions?
