Removing attachments

Accepted an invitation from Microsoft to update Outlook Express and since
then all emails to me containing attachments are having such attachemnts
removed as 'unsafe'; even if I look in my 'sent items', attachments to my own
outgoing emails have been removed. Truth is I have now discovered that my
version of Outlook Express, loaded on my PC when I bought it, is not
registered to my PC! However, I badly need to return my Outlook to the way it
was, so that I can receive attachments to emails. In fixing the problem I do
not want to lose any of my files (messages, address book etc.). Can somebody
PLEASE help me? Thanks.

Hi - Outlook Express doesn't need any sort of "registration" - I don't know
what you mean by that. And Outlook Express is not Outlook - they're entirely
different programs. Also - how did you get an invitation from Microsoft to
update Outlook Express? Did you get an e-mail? If so, you got a
virus...Microsoft doesn't send out updates via e-mail.

If instead you mean that you ran Windows Update & it updated IE/Outlook
Express to the latest version, it hasn't deleted your attachments - it's
just blocking access to potentially unsafe ones. See
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;q291387 -

Option 1: Click forward on the message w/the attachment and open it from
there (you don't have to click Send on the new message - just close it).
This is a minor extra step, but doesn't involve changing your security
settings.

Option 2: look in tools, options, security, and untick the box.
If you go with option 2, make sure you have good antivirus software running,
and kept updated. Actually, you need that anyway!

Also note:

Try posting OE questions in an Outlook Express newsgroup - this is not one
of them.
Outlook is a part of Microsoft Office and is what this group supports.
Outlook Express is a part of Internet Explorer and has its own newsgroups.

You can also find some good Outlook Express information here:

A list of Microsoft Public Newsgroups can be found here (not exhaustive):
