removed backup data partition on Acer

I dual boot Vista premium and Suse. I deleted Acer backup partition to
create more space for Linux partition. I did create a backup DVD when I
first ran Acer with XP.

Question 1:

If I ever wish to start again will the XP recovery DVD take me back to Acer
with backup partition?

Question 2:

Will the Vista upgrade DVD's from Microsoft work again ?

It really depends what you put on that backup DVD....and what program you
used to create it.......did you Image the whole HD? or just the partition
that the OS was on?? or the backup partition??
On my Acer..there is no "backup" partition...........there is only a
"recovery" partition where the files reside to "recover" the system back to
a state when 1st purchased,...........if this is what you deleted then your
"backup" DVD had better work.
A Vista Upgrade DVD...retail....will look for XP to be installed before it
installs.
An Acer Upgrade Vista DVD will look for Acer's XP to be installed before it
installs
So if your "backup" functions you would need to Format the Broken Vista
Installation.....Restore the XP Backup(what program did you use...what
program will you use?)....which would place XP back on the drive and then
install the Vista Upgrade.

1. When I tested mine it did. Backups aren't much good unless you know they
work. Before I installed a dual boot Vista/Linux setup I made two sets of
the Acer DVD recovery disks and tested both of them.

2. Of course it will.

There are several options when making the Acer recovery disks, if you
selected the full hard drive backup or factory restore it should restore the
D: drive. If not, then you'll be stuck without it.

I chose the restore to factory default option using the Acer software which
appeared on first boot of the laptop. Sounds like it will work ok if I ever
need it. The system works fine currently. I can never resist installing
different Linux distributions when I get bored with current favourite :)
Thanks everyone!
