Of course you can. But I recommend that you don't get rid of Vista so
quickly. Like anything else that's new, there are differences and it
takes a while to get used to them and find out how to use its
features.
I don't know if I want to go back to XP, but Vista is making me very
unhappy. It's new, yes, but I don't have time for my productivity to fall to
nil because I have to keep changing my mouse and trackpad settings back to my
personal preferences every time I open my laptop or walk away from it or ten
minutes pass.... I have tried on multiple forums to get some real answers
and a solution to this (and other setting issues). I have gotten no
response.
I also can't get the screen settings straight so that I can see the words
I'm typing clearly without a magnifying glass (though I can change it so all
the menus are gigantic).
Every time I open a program, it asks if I want to update or makes me aware
of some little thing that I have already clicked the "don't ask/remind again"
button for 100,000 times. No one will tell me how to solve that problem
either.
I tried emailing MS directly, but even after following all their directions
to locate the product key and typing in EXACTLY the way it's written on my
screen (in that system folder) AND exactly the way it is on the sticker under
the laptop about five times and being told it didn't match or wasn't typed
right, I give up.
The location of the refresh button in IE is odd to say the least. To say
the worst, it requires way too much mousing. I don't need carpel tunnel from
the refresh button. Whatever, IE was never that special and Firefox works
just fine.
The delete key is in a weird place that cause me to have to lift my whole
hand instead of being able to fluidly use the same keyboard shortcuts.
That's Dell's retardation, though.
The settings, though....please. The very LEAST I expect from an OS is that
if I set the tracking speed on my mouse, it'll remember it unless it suffers
a massive meltdown.
I'll give Vista two more weeks. I realize it's new and wonky. I also
realize that for something that expensive, it needs to work a little better
than I've witnessed so far. A $4 tee shirt at the thrift store? I don't
expect much from that. A several hundred dollar OS that was in development
for years... If I haven't found an answer to this settings problem in two
weeks, this thing is being removed from my life.
My real question - for Blake or someone who might know - is: if I attempt to
wipe out this beast, will it indeed go away or will parts of it still be
hiding out on my hard drive eating up unnecessary space?
Thanks,
