remove local account

How do you permanently remove any trace of an account that was once on
Window XP. I see that folder for that person's account still exists on
C:/Documents and Settings/ "old user".

Do I need to edit the registry?

If the user has been removed via Control Panel> User Accounts, you should
be able to delete any remaining folders from Windows Explorer.

Nope, that doesn't work, I tried that first thing. There are several
subfolders for that account. Got any other ideas?

Folders not accessible.

What is "doesn't work." What happens when you try? If getting an "access
denied" message, take ownership of the files and folder while logged on
with an account in the administrator group. Then delete.

"Inaccessible" is expected when the folders are being protected by
permission. Did you try taking ownership?

If still no luck, go into the permissions for the and remove the previous
owner from the list of allowed accounts.
