Hi all, when i boot up i am given the option to boot from 1 of either 2
installed XP OS's.

The second being a failed incomplete installion. I know how to change this
option so it only displays one OS boot option by editing Boot.ini, but how
do i remove all the files associated with this installation ?

Taken your advice and the link, problem is now resolved.

Thanks both for your help,

Paul

Aloha,
I was looking through here for something like this.
I had to reinstall XP Home on my pc and because I got in a
hurry and wasn't paying attention to detail ended up
installing it 3 times on two different drives (one drive
had a partition and got loaded on each partition). Please
don't ask how or why, it is too embarrassing.

Anyway, I deleted the Windows folders with Explorer from
the areas I didn't want it and it seems to work okay. The
only thing is that when I boot up the PC it gives me the
option to select from 3 different Windows XP Home Edition
listings. Can I use these steps to remove the unwanted
listings?

Mahalo.

Here is a safe way to get rid of any unwanted OS:
1. Boot into the OS to be kept.
2. Start a Command Prompt.
3. Type this command: set SystemRoot
4. Make a note of the response.
5. Type this command: type c:\boot.ini
6. Make a note of every OS that's shown.
7. Rename each OS folder found to something else,
exept for the one you found in Step 3.
Example: ren d:\winnt d:\winnt.delete
8. Wait a week.
9. If all is well, delete the renamed folders.
10. Unhide & edit c:\boot.ini so that you can remove
the unwanted lines.
