I set macro security to low and looked for all active x controls -- didn't
find any in my document. I need a way to be able to open document with asking
user about enabling macros (there are none) and without showing that darn
control toolbar. Please help! Is there a hidden code I can search for to off
the toolbar?

Hi Angie,

One possibility might be that the document contains or once contained a macro.

I believe that when a macro is created in a Word document (prior to 2007),
Word creates a container for the code. In one or more error messages that
Word sometimes generates it's referred to as "macro storage".

I think the mere presence of this container triggers the security warnings
and in conjunction with the security level displays the control toolbar.

I'm using Word 2003 and I seem to get the control toolbar appearing if my
security level is set to at least High, and the document actually contains an
activex control or ever contained a macro.

If you delete all macros from the document the macro storage container is
not deleted. It remains and you still get the security prompts etc.

One way to "clean" a document of the macro storage container is to save the
document as a .rtf file, open the .rtf file and re-save as a .doc file.

You might want to try this with a copy of the document.

Regards.

Ed
