Hello

I just bought a used Windows 2000 computer. At the login...I have to depress Control, Atl, and Delete at signin. I am fully aware why Microsoft put this step there. However, I would indeed like to remove it. I looked in the Microsoft help file, and there indeed are directions there on how to remove it...however the box I need to uncheck to remove it is grayed out, so I can not uncheck it. Obviously there is something in the registry that I need to modify to be able to uncheck this box and get rid of this step at login

Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks

Tracy.

In Group Policy (Start | Run | gpedit.msc | OK) look in Local Computer Policy | Computer Configuration | Windows Settings | Security Settings | Local Policies | Security Options. Look through the list for Disable CTRL+ALT+DEL requirement for logon. Enable that by double-clicking the entry and choose enable.

George, or anybody else....

Thanks for the quick response! I tried that...and I think and even rebooted...and the effective setting stays disabled. There is a statement in that window that domain-level settings override local settings...and I bet I need to change the domain level settings. Is that possible

Again, thanks in advance

Tracy,

TweakUI has a Logon section that allows fully automatic logon to a pre
specified user (so no 3 finger salute or username/password box),
obviously it reduces security but you may find it an acceptable risk?

Very simple. Login as local admin, open up control panel, double click users & passwords icon, click the advanced tab, under "secure boot settings" uncheck "requires user to press alt-Ctrl-del before logging on".

Thanks for all the reponses to far. It was part of a domain...I bought it used...and it is just now my home computer. I hope that helps

Thanks

Yes that is the issue. If you are a domain controller then you must do the same thing using the Domain Security applet in the Control Panel. If you are not a Domain Controller but you are part of Domain then the Domain Administrator has to make the change. If you are not a Domain Controller and you are NOT part of a Domain then what you did should be all that is necessary. See if you have other "Security" applets in Start | Settings | Control Panel | Administrator Tools. If you don't then you need to make sure that you are NOT attached to a ghost Domain. Do you have a Domain drop down in your login prompt after boot?
