remove 2 dead NT 4 BDC's from AD

Hi,

I migrated from NT 4.0 domain to AD about a year ago. I left two NT 4.0
backup domain controllers to serve our network then. Now both of these very
old boxes are completely dead and they are not needed anymore.

Is it possible just remove the computer objects from the Domain Controllers
container or is there any need to remove them with ntdsutil from the AD?

You can simply delete the computer objects. There's no metadata to worry
about as BDCs simply hold a read only copy of the database.

Thanks. But I get "The DSA Object cannot be deleted" when I try to remove
the computer objects from the domain controllers OU.

Is it compeletely safe method to remove the unneeded bdc accounts with
Server Manager (srvmgr.exe)?

Ah yes. Sometimes this happens. You can delete it using ADSIEdit for sure.
Try srvmgr.exe first, and let us know what happens.
