removable device / ready boost issue

I have a 16MB memory stick I initially inserted in the built in reader in my
desktop. I removed it and inserted a 1G stick and looked at the Ready Boost
tab under properties. It still shows 16MB.

I have deleted the device in Device Manger and scanned for new hardware. It
isntalls the reader jsut fine but no matter what I do it still shows 16MB
and therefore precludes the use of ReadyBoost. Any ideas welcome.

"16MB" are you sure? Requirement for ReadyBoost external storage reuires a
capacity between 256 MB and 4 GB.

All devices will not function a a ReadyBoost deivice. Windows, vis
properties option, will test the device and state whether or not it is
suitable.

If device is OK - there is a "slider" made avialble (propertied) by which
you can set the space to reserve for ReadyBoost.

I had initially put in an old stick that was a 16 not intending to use ot
for ReadyBoost obviously. But Vista is still stuck showng that as the
capacity for RB.

Any way to reset ?

You have not indicated that Windows has stated the new device is capable of
being used for ReadBoost.

Right click the device - select properties - select ReadyBoost tab - if
Windows has okayed use of the device There will be a "slider"s to set the
memory for ReadyBoost use.

Regarding "...not intending to use ot for ReadyBoost obviously....".
Selection for readyBoost is not automatic - you must tell Windows to do so
