How can you switch from a permanent to a removable C drive
and vise versa?

Joe - if you are asking about a "mobile rack" for a standard hard drive,
Google for that search argument (keeping the quotes). You'll get lots of
hits. Such racks are inexpensive and commonly available at good PC stores.

The mobile rack has 2 parts: a small box that fits in a standard
external drive bay in your PC, and a small carriage that contains your
hard drive and can be slid in or out of the box. The box is cabled to
the controller and power, the drive is cabled to the carriage, and the
carriage mates electrically with the box when inserted. Many people have
several carriages/drives, for convenience (system and data backup,
different systems, etc.)
