Is there a way that I can connect to the active directory that is setup on my Domain Controller from my Windows XP workstation.

There's a couple of ways...I use Terminal Services client. Install Terminal
Services in Remote Administration mode, then create the installation
diskettes with the Terminal Services Client Creator. You can also install
the adminpak.msi on your workstation.

wow - i didn't think it would be so difficult to do such a simple task.
does this also apply to win2003?

forgive my ignorance on this, as i'm used to edirectory where any
workstation anywhere, regardless of version and as long as you had
rights, could manage the edirectory.

I understand. I work with eDir also. While it sounds complicated, it's not
bad at all...I like using TS, but you can install the administrative tools
from the server cd (i386/adminpak.msi). Yes, win2003 also.

You don't need the TS client on Windows XP. It's already got one.
You can also install

That would be my prefered option. I've seen too many admins log into TS, then
thinking that they are logged into their local machine, do stupid things like
restart servers. Much safer to use the remote tools. Much more convenient
too.

Static,

I think that the posts have pretty much covered the best ways....

Install the Adminpak on the client and away you go. You might notice that
you have some problems when installing the Adminpak on a WINXP Pro box. Do
a search in this NG for installing this on a WINXP Pro system when
administering a WIN2000 network..

I would also recommend that you install TS in Remote Admin Mode on all of
your WIN2000 Servers. This will allow you to get to them from home. I do a
lot of things either from home or from another office...This is a really
nice feature. You will want to install the latest RDP Client on whatever
system you will be doing this. In the case of WIN XP Pro it already has RDP
installed. It is found under Start | All Programs | Accessories |
Communication. It shows up as Remote Desktop Connection. I would install
the latest RDP Client, though.

There are some other possibilities. You can install TightVNC ( free ) or
pcAnywhere ( costs money ) or some other applications. I myself prefer the
Adminpak or TS in Remote Admin Mode.

HTH,

Cary
